About Me

Hi, I'm Sarah, a registered veterinary nurse, animal lover, and founder of The Purrfect Pawz. I serve Whitby and the surrounding suburbs, providing gentle, stress-free veterinary nurse care at your doorstep. I am dedicated to caring for pets and supporting their owners.

I relocated to New Zealand from the United Kingdom in 2010 on a working holiday visa, initially planning to stay for one year. However, I quickly embraced the local lifestyle, and we decided to settle permanently. We became residents and purchased our first home in Whitby.

Animals have always played a significant role in my life. After relocating to Wellington, I joined Central Vets and spent ten years caring for pets and supporting their families. Our landlord permitted pets, so Royston, a grey-and-white tabby surrendered to CPL, became part of our family. Sir Tom, known for his unique habit of sitting on my head, joined us soon after. Having cats again reinforced the happiness and comfort that animals bring to a home.

Upon moving to Whitby, I joined the Rappaw Veterinary Care team and worked at the Plimmerton and Paremata clinics. I valued the welcoming community and established strong relationships with both pets and their owners.

Subsequently, I worked in human medical imaging, which broadened my perspective on patient care and further reinforced my passion for supporting animals and their families. Some of my most meaningful experiences have involved nursing pets back to health and witnessing their recovery.

Why I Started The Purrfect Pawz

Veterinary clinics frequently encounter time constraints. Although the standard of care is high, it can be challenging to provide slow, quiet, individualized support. I sought to dedicate more time to owners and their pets, offering guidance and reassurance throughout each pet’s health journey.

This motivation led me to establish The Purrfect Pawz.

My goal is to:

  • Offer gentle, stress-free veterinary nursing in your home, including medication administration, wound care, and post-surgical support. My objective is to ensure your pet’s recovery proceeds smoothly.

  • Support pets as they recover from illness, surgery, or chronic conditions.

  • Provide calm, confident help with medication and daily medical routines.

  • Help bridge the gap between veterinary clinics and pet owners.

  • Give pets comfort and give owners peace of mind.

I believe that pets experience improved healing and greater happiness when they remain in familiar surroundings, close to the people they love most.
